Douglas S Robinson

Douglas Robinson is a well known breeder of 4 breeds of Setters (Irish, English, Gordon and Irish Red and White).  His passion for this breed started in 1974 while he was still resident in the then Rhodesia.  In 1980 Douglas immigrated to South Africa where he established the SouthernStar grounds.   The grounds were specifically developed for dogs and the interventions which promote the well balanced relationships between K9 and their owners, namely, dog training schools and just recently dog club shows.

About

Meet the Team

Karen and Jessica Evans

Maxwell Bandah and Dominic Makoae

Karen Evans started Showing at the age of 12, when her mother Joan Booth started the “Dervely” Cockers.  They bought a blue bitch from the "Glowhill" kennels in Britain and brought her to South Africa with them. Joan was persuaded to go on to the Transvaal Cocker Spaniel Club committee. Karen and her sister Lynne Ruddle got involved immediately.  They both started showing with the pups that they kept from “Kelsie”. Karen and Lynne joined both Kennel Union and the Transvaal Cocker Spaniel Club as soon as they were old enough. Karen is still on the Cocker Spaniel Club, having been in the posts as Secretary, treasurer, vice chairman and chairman and is now vice chairman and a vice president.  Karen and Joan bought from Scotish Kennels “Lynwater” a pregnant bitch and a dog.

Later Karen and Lynne bought in a young pup from the Portugese kennel of “Stocdale” and Joan then imported a dog from the British kennel of “Jannor”. Joan and Karen got involved with the solid colour cockers when Karen’s daughter went to visit  “Jannor “  and found a young golden male of which then Joan imported together with a black bitch and a black dog. Lynne has just imported a blue dog from the “Manaca’s” Kennel in Sweden.

Karen’s daughter Jessica got involved with the “cockers” at a very early age, when mom stuck her in a walking ring and tied a dog to it and entered her in Child Handling at a Cocker Club show. Jessica got hooked immediately.  Jessica then has competed in handling competitions winning 2003 Kusa Child handler of the year and is now competing in open handler competitions.

Dervely Cocker Spaniel's have produced many Champion Show dogs.  They occasionally breed with the “girls” and have puppies for sale of which there is a waiting list.

Jessica is studying Dog Behaviour through Cambridge University in the UK.  Jessica is also involved in the committee in the “Cocker Club”

Karen has studied Dog nutrition and owns the company “Fur Angels”.

Both Karen and Jessica are involved in Social Dog training and have just started with Paws for people.

Karen and Jessica with the staff , Maxwell  Bandah and Dominic Makoae ,  take care of the pets in the boarding kennels.  Giving each pet, individual attention and love.
